The future location of the 2007 Toy Fair is very much undecided. Talks have been ongoing for moving the biggest toy show in the western hemisphere from its erstwhile home, New York City, to another location.
There are three major contenders for the hosting of the Toy Fair. They are Atlanta, Orlando and its current host, New York City. The latter has been the home of the American International Toy Fair for 102 years, since it first started.
It is interesting to see what each city has to say.
However, New York isn't going to let go of the Toy Fair so easily. Even with the high costs associated with holding a tradeshow in the city, New York does have its advantages. For one thing, largest U.S. toy companies are right there in NY. Secondly, it will be hard to compete with New York in terms of entertainment appeal including theatres, dinner shows, restaurants, shopping and the like.
Atlanta is another strong competitor. The primary advantage is the lower cost of doing business there. Easily accessible via the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta is well equipped to handle the convention. The downtown areas of the city are being spruced up too, and new attractions are being added.
According to MSNBC News,
"There often are many other intangibles involved when convention organizers choose where to hold their shows, said Bonnie Knutson, professor of innovative marketing at the Michigan State University School of Hospitality Business.
"It's not just the cost they're looking at -- it's also convenience and climate and whether they want to stay in the same place year after year or rotate through different cities," Knutson said."
Well, if it is decided that the Toy Fair has to move, New York will be sorely missed by most. On the other hand, a change of locale may have a positive effect on the show.
Well, one just has to wait and watch to see what happens, since the decision is likely to be made around May 20th. Keep posted for latest developments!
