The little electronic virtual pet, Tamagotchi, is once again becoming popular among elementary children, according to MDN News, Japan.

"Tamagotchi Connection is an award winning virtual pet from Bandai. It features cute pets called Tamagotchi's which have to be cared for and looked after in order to remain healthy and thrive. This is a nice way for children to learn some responsibility while caring for their virtual pet, although one cannot replace reality with this virtual world!"
According to MDN, the "Shuku Keitai Kaitsu! Tamagotchi Plus" which is the popular "Shuku Keitai" version is gaining popularity, selling around 1.5 million pieces recently. It comes equipped with a function allowing the toy to receive signals from cell phones.
To make it even easier for the cell-phone and web savvy kids of today, a Japanese cell phone site features the "birthplace" of Tamagotchi and the toys can receive "Gotchi points."
The Tamagotchi pets seem to appeal to the nuturing instinct in young kids, it can be likened to little kids role-playing mom and dad!
