The next day more than made up for the lack of people at the Toy Fair. The fair was teeming with toy representatives, buyers and the press. There was a lively atmosphere at Javits, and toy companies like Fundex added to the general merriment via their magic show hosted by Las Vegas magician Mac King! He has collaborated with Fundex to create a series of easy to do magic tricks, including some on the lines of making things appear and disappear.
There were lots of absolutely fantastic toys, action figures, dolls, electronic toys, DVDs and more out there, though occasionally you managed to spot something which made you think, "What in the world is this doing here???!" There was so much to see and absorb.
The press room had little keyrings to offer as freebies, featuring the Trolls, which have made a comeback. Care Bears, Angelina Ballerina, Superman, Batman, Disney Princesses, Teddy Ruxpin, Pirates of the Caribbean, were prominent among other licensed characters at the show. However, it seems like Superman has stolen the show this year. There were lots of Superman themed toys including toys from Oregon Scientific, Mattel, Toy Biz due to the new Superman movie coming out this summer. Superman, Disney's Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean are the three hot properties for boys this year.
Another hot piece of news was that Mattel has brought back Ken! Ken was looking all fresh and ready to take on the world. Hopefully this will help Mattel boost Barbie sales.
On the other end of the spectrum, MGA Entertainment has acquired licenses for the Disney Princesses, and has plans to introduce Storytime, which is a book/doll combination. The Storytime line will include Disney characters like The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and more. MGA has also teamed up with Marvel to bring out toys, cars, games and more based on the Marvel superheroes.
