There have been 34 known incidents, in which small magnets were the culprits. Out of the incidents, 1 was fatal, and involved the death of a 20 month boy. The little boy had swallowed a magnet which twisted his small intestine and blocked it. There have also been reports of four other serious injuries. One 5 year old child actually inhaled 2 magnets and had to undergo surgery to remove the magnets from his lungs.
Due to the various incidents, all Magnetix magnetic building sets have been recalled. The recall includes the X-treme Combo, Micro, and Extreme sets. According to the recall notice from the CPSC, the sets contain 20 to 200 plastic building pieces and 20 to 100 1/2-inch diameter steel balls. The building pieces are red, yellow, blue and green, and are shaped in 1 1/2-inch squares, 1-inch triangles and cylinder rods. Some plastic building pieces have “Magnetix” imprinted on them.
Parents should immediately take away the Magnetix building sets away from their kids and return them to Rose Art for a free replacement product safe for kids under the age of 6.

what adress do we return the product to?
will we get a refund?
Why are these toys still available at Toy’r'us? I just purchased a set last week.
Unbelievable!!! This product is not in our home, however it’s at the inlaws and relatives not to mention preschool . Its disturbing that all sets are not replaced, rather than those only in homes with children 6 and under. The magnetics pose a threat to ALL! I witnessed a thirteen year old jokingly use the pieces as a nose piercing to get a parents reaction. It was at this time I recognized the product from a retailers recall poster. When our 5 year old was playing appropriately with them he discovered the magnets were coming apart from the ends of the rods. In trying to hand them to me it actually attracted the magnetic poles through his fore finger. How can this be safe for any age? Numbers listed by retailers are no longer in service and Roseart has nothing for direct email regarding this problem. Why are they still on retailers shelves? Why would I want little kids blocks (manufacturers suggested replacement) to replace a very age appropriate toy? I have had little luck with phone contact and Roseart gives a long distance number for recalls…Why should I pay again?
These may be dangerous for babies, but wow are they fun, even for adults. I’m reduced to buying them on Ebay and paying $50 shipping from Australlia. Sigh…
I dont understand this. . . they still advertise Magnetix on TV and I just bought a set for my son at wal mart. Do you have erroneous information?
Sure Magnetix are fun, but they are also dangerous. My son just had to go through an operation to remove one of the metal balls from his stomach. The ball was too large to pass through his intestines. If we wouldn’t have caught this in time he may have had serious health problems. Please beware when letting young children play with these. You never know what can happen. Take it from me you never want to go trough this.
If your kids are prone to putting things in their mouths, they are too young for magnetix. It’s your job as a parent to know your kid and if s/he’s the kind that’s apt to stick things up his/her nose or mouth, you shouldn’t buy them anything small enough to ingest, regardless of age.
I’m pissed b/c my kids love magnetix and now we can’t find them. They are a great toy for older kids and adults.
