Rubik's Revolution - Hot or Not?

From Dipika Mirpuri, About.com GuideMarch 20, 2007

Follow me on:

There's been a lot of buzz about the Rubik's Revolution from Technosource, and how it is going to be the next major "revolution". The Rubik's Revolution made quite an impact on this year's Toy Fair partly due to the hard hitting marketing techniques employed by the folks at Technosource.

After all the hype, I must say, I was pretty excited when I received the review sample of the Rubik's Revolution. From a distance, it looked almost exactly like the Rubik's Cube. When I took a closer look, it turned out that the toy is very different from it's precursor. That said, Rubik's Revolution has it's pluses and minuses, but the main thing according to me is that this toy can be pretty addictive!

If you keep an open mind about the Rubik's Revolution, you'll like it. If you are a die-hard Rubik's cube fan, you'll hate it. The Rubik's Revolution involves skill, but hardly any brain work. If you're curious to read more, here's the review of the Rubik's Revolution.

We found this product to be terrible for quality. The stickers peeled off after only a week of our son playing with it. When we contacted the company they failed to reply to our request for a replacement or reimbursement.

This product is a swindle. Yes, it’s nothing like the Rubik’s Cube — but why do they make it look so much like one? The answer can only be intentional deception.

I also agree with the other commenter that this is a low-quality product as well. I haven’t had it long enough for the stickers to come off (I’m returning it!), but the voice and other sounds it makes were obviously digitized with a very low sampling rate, resulting in that kind of background “static” noise. It’s a very grating, irritating sound that you just can’t stand for more than 30 seconds before you want to turn it off.
