Mattel Recalls Millions of Polly Pocket Play Sets
Monday August 20, 2007
Magnetic toys have been very much in the news of late, and have received plenty of negative publicity. Mattel has expanded it's earlier recall of Polly Pocket play sets to cover almost 7.3 million play sets. The recall was issued after receiving hundreds of reports of little magnets embedded inside the dolls coming loose. Little children can accidently ingest or inhale these magnets, leading to intestinal blockage or perforation, which can be fatal. Polly Pocket play sets manufactured between May 2003 and November 2006 are affected by the recall. The Polly Pocket play sets have tiny magnets measuring 1/8 of an inch embedded within the doll's feet, hands and related accessories. If you own a Polly Pocket play set, it would be a wise thing to check for the model number and make sure that the play set is safe for your kids. The model number can be found underneath some of the largest pieces of the play set. A comprehensive list of the Polly Pocket play sets and associated model numbers affected by the recall can be found at the CPSC website.
