The alarmingly high levels of lead found in the surface paints of toys and other household goods have caused much concern. One of the worst parts about the whole lead paint thing is the uncertainty factor - whether or not your kids' toys have lead in them.

If you're tired of waiting around for something to happen, here's an option for you. There are several home lead test kits available, some of them good, some not. If you've done a search on the internet for "home lead test kits", you've probably come up with names like "Lead Detective", "Lead Inspector", etc. The Wall Street Journal website has published a really great article in which they've actually tried out some of these kits and provided you with their feedback. They've compared four of the home lead testing kits including the Pro-Lab Lead Surface Test Kit, the Lead Detective, LeadCheck Swabs and the Lead Inspector Lead Check Test Kit. Here's a look at the WSJ.com article on Home Lead Test Kits.
