Along the course of the years, I've seen lots of science kits which are downright tacky. They promise lots, but deliver little. The only consistent thing one usually gets from volcano making science kits is the mess!
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the Volcano Madness Science Kit from The Young Scientists' Club. This science kit is aimed towards kids aged 5 and up. Although this kit is very simple and uncomplicated, it actually ends up educating kids about the many aspects of volcanoes like pumice rock, volcanic eruptions and more. I found that the Volcano Madness science kit provides an all-round experience about volcanoes in a scientific fashion. However, I was a little disappointed in the "eruption" part of the kit which could have been better. In all fairness, the kit uses commonly found household chemicals like baking soda and vinegar for the experiments. Keeping this in mind, the Volcano Madness science kit does make an honest (and mess free) effort to simulate an actual volcanic eruption.
The kit is reasonably priced at $14.99 and offers your kids the opportunity to learn all about volcanoes. If you're looking for thrills and drama, this kit is not for you. However, if you are looking for something really educational for your kids, you can check this science kit out online at the Young Scientists' Club website.
