Disney Initiates Independant Plans To Test Toys For Lead

The Walt Disney Company today announced plans to test a huge number of Disney branded toys and associated products from more than 2000 of it's vendors. This announcement closely followed Mattel's third toy recall due to excess levels of lead in the surface paint of toys. The Disney toy, jewelry and furniture tests are scheduled to begin in the next two weeks.

The recent toy recalls have sparked off a mass feeling of uncertainty in the toy industry, as well as in the minds of parents and toy consumers. With the holiday season coming up very shortly, the Disney announcement hopefully will help to contain the widespread concern in time for the holiday shopping. It's certainly heartening to see that Disney is taking the initiative to ensure product safety. I hope that other toy manufacturers will follow Disney's example. On a side note, surprisingly, there's no word from toy giant Hasbro on toy testing as yet!
