Red Alert - Kolcraft Recalls Play Yards Due To Strangulation Hazard

Follow me on:

A huge number of infant play yards, totalling nearly 425,000, are being recalled by Kolcraft, Inc after a horrible incident involving the strangulation of a 10 month old boy. The "Sesame Beginnings" travel play yard model has a changing table restraint strap which, unfortunately, was hanging down into the play yard area and formed a loop when the incident occured. Twelve different models of Kolcraft play yards have been recalled due to similar construction features.

Another potentially hazardous situation involving play yards has been detected by Kolcraft. A specific play yard model has a raised cradle which rocks back and forth. Kolcraft received several reports about the possibility of children who could roll and get trapped against the side of the cradle.

If you have a Kolcraft play yard, I suggest that you take a look at the recalled models at the CPSC web site. The recalled model number is usually on one of the feet of the play yard. The play yards were sold at retail stores nationwide from January 2001 through September 2007. A free replacement strap which is safer than the looped one can be obtained from Kolcraft. Also, a free replacement cradle kit can also be obtained.
