Dora the Explorer Grows Up!

New Dora the ExplorerDora the Explorer has been a household name for preschoolers for the last decade or so. Kids have been captivated by Dora and her cousin Diego, following their adventures religiously on the silver screen. My own kids absolutely adore Dora and her sidekick Boots the monkey. Now, as my daughter is moving out of the preschool years, I was definitely surprised to learn about the fact that Dora is "growing up" too!

Nick, the property which represents Dora, has big plans for the little adventuress. The "new" Dora has a whole new look, starting from her longish hair and short skirt. (Right now, we're not being shown what the older Dora is going to look like, we'll have to wait until the fall for that.) Aside from the change in Dora's looks, the star of the show is all set to move out of the country into the big city. Obviously, she will go to school as well.

So, how does this link into the toy market? Well, this is where Nick intends to score big. Judging from the past successes of online virtual websites, Nick plans to launch it's very own virtual Dora the Explorer world where fans will be able to interact with the "new" Dora, play games, go on mystery solving trips, learn more about the other characters, earn virtual currency which can be put towards solving new mysteries and lots more. The center of this virtual world will be the brand new doll called Dora Links Fashion Doll.

The Dora Links doll promises to be quite unique in many ways. She will have the capability to be plugged into a computer and kids will be able to interact with the doll online. When her eye color, hairstyle and jewelry are changed virtually, this will cause a similar change in their very own Dora doll, as she transforms accordingly. The Dora Links doll is also far removed from the traditional "static" concept of a doll. The doll will be alerted whenever new mysteries are being added on to the site. Also, her speech patterns will change based on the level of play on the website. Both these factors will certainly channel more visits to the virtual world.

The whole experience can be enhanced via an entire line of accessories which will be sold separately. The Dora Links fashion doll will target kids five years and up and will retail for approximately $59.99 in the fall of '09.

I love the new look of the new Tween Dora. I think she is growing up but not to grown up and very provocative. Our preschools childernlays with Barbie, The teenage Bratz Dolls, Polly Pocket, Hannah Montana, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beaust then they get married, etc. The list is long of very sexy dolls that entertain our preschools childern. I feel that this Tween Dora Doll is not a sexy looking as some of them.. I will buy my 5 year old daughter one of these new Tween Dora Dolls. I love the new look as I feel it is a new and better improvement look for Dora. Smile. Keep the good work up, Okay. Boston, MA

My four year old grandaughter has seen a picture of the tween Dora and doesn’t like her. If Dora is for pre-schoolers why the change? and what will happen to Diego? will Boots still be her best friend? these are the questions I was asked for which I didn’t have the answers.

mattel sucks.

Leave the little kids cartoon for the little kids.

Little kids grow up too fast as it is.

Make a new character for tweens. Big bird didn’t have to grow up for Sesame street to stay popular.
