First Tween Dora, Now It's Tattoo Barbie!

Tattoo BarbieFirst Tween Dora, now it's Tattoo Barbie! Moms everywhere are outraged with the new "Tattoo" Barbie doll that's been released by Mattel. As the name suggests, this Barbie comes with a tattoo gun and a sheet of tattoos which little girls can use to decorate either Barbie or themselves. The tattoos are temporary, of course, being totally washable. But many parents have taken offence with the tattoo gun and stamper which comes along with the doll.

The crux of the matter is whether it's right or wrong to portray tattoos as being cool to kids as young as 5 years old. Well, understandably, most kids love pottering around with harmless temporary tattoos, usually featuring butterflies and flowers, which can be found almost everywhere. On the other hand, being provided with a tattoo gun and a Barbie doll to use it on can undoubtedly be perceived as a bit too much. Barbie dolls have traditionally been viewed as dolls with a squeaky clean, wholesome image. The tattoo element does tarnish things a bit!

What do you think about Tattoo Barbie? Will you get one for your little girl? Vote in the poll and let us know what you think!

I think that we may have gone to far with this one. Do we need to expose our young kids to EVERYTHING? Can we not hold onto some innocence? Girls especially, are subjected to so many adult influences at such a young age the Tattoo Barbie is just adding fuel to the fire.

I think that this has gotten blown way out of proportion. As kids we have all used temporary tattoos on ourselves. How is this any different? And the above article doesn’t mention that you can also apply the tattoos to Barbie’s clothes, so its just not tattooing.
Tattoos aren’t nearly as taboo as they used to be. Your children will be seeing them almost everywhere they go. The tattoos that come with Barbie aren’t skull and cross bones or distasteful in any way. And they maybe an inch in diameter.
Tattoos are not bad things, if they are tasteful who are you to knock them.
