Helmets are a very important safety precaution. As we've seen in the recent tragedy concerning the actress Natasha Richardson, it's a strong possibility that wearing a helmet could have saved her life. Although the matter is under debate as I write, it's still a good safety measure to wear a helmet while participating in any sport where there's a danger of hitting one's head.
