Do Tweens Still Play With Toys? You Bet!

Follow me on:

Earlier in the year, my neighbor and close friend was hosting a birthday party for her eldest daughter who was turning 11. After I had stopped marveling at how quickly time flies by, I realized that I needed to give her a gift. My first instinct was to head to the mall and pick up a gift card for a clothing or music store, but my two younger children disagreed, steering me into the toy store (gee I wonder why?).

I wandered the aisles thinking my time was being wasted -- tweens don't care about toys. They are all about cell phones and clothing and MP3 downloads, right? Wrong.

Jennifer O'Donnell, About.com's Guide to Parenting Tweens has put together an awesome list of Tween Gifts that Rock and surprisingly enough, there are quite a few toys included. Would a tween welcome Candy Land or Chutes and Ladders? Probably not, but Jennifer assures me that there are plenty of cool games for tweens, including the Magic 8 Ball and 20Q.

What kind of toys does your tween like to play with?
