Preschool Toy Top Pick: Pet Sitter Dora

Follow me on:

An old friend adopts a new one with the launch of Dora Loves Puppy, a line of toys, clothing and other products launched by Kmart and Nickelodeon earlier this week. The entire brand, including a website, is built behind the idea that Dora has adopted a dog and includes, among other things jewelry, playsets, sporting goods and footwear.

The new Pet Sitter Dora, features Dora and her puppy -- Perrito -- and his twin. When she feeds the dogs their bone, kids will hear Dora talk to and about the puppies (in English and Spanish) as well as a dog barking. Although simple, the doll is well-made and adorable and will delight any Dora fan.

I think it does a good job of helping teach a little one responsibility on a very basic level of having a pet. Dora talks about taking the puppies to the park, giving them a snack, taking care of them and simply loving them, good ideas that your child might be inspired to follow. Certainly your preschooler won't become the Dog Whisperer after playing with it, but it does a good job of planting a seed.

As an added bonus to your purchase, if you go online to the site, you can redeem codes that you get from the merchandise for personalizes activities like adoption papers and posters, digital downloads, games and screensavers.
