Rory's Story Cubes (Compare Prices) is a clever game that challenges even non-readers to make up stories on the fly. There are several game variants and we chose a simple version. Simply roll the nine picture dice and line them up in a row. Each side has a different image from a sheep to a rainbow, a flashlight and a tall tower. When it's your turn you have to tell a story using all the die. The creative storytelling starts with "Once upon a time..."
Though it's rated for kids ages 8 and up, my 4-year-old son surprised me in his ability to tell the story and use all the visual elements. Older kids would also love trying out more complex versions of the game.
