Uberstix Aeroforce Gliders (Compare Prices) are eight different large, substantial Styrofoam gliders with lots of unusual, plastic parts. (That's the Uberstix part. It's an usual type of building blocks.) Kids follow the schematic to lock the parts together and, when the gliders are fully assembled they resemble futuristic planes fully armed with machine guns.
I asked several boys in the 8-to-10-year-old target market to play with the gliders and they said they are "super cool!" I did notice that the boys seemed to throw them a few times then move on to greener pastures. If several kids each had a glider, I would expect a full-force strategic campaign to break out immediately.
The gliders are large and can fly a good distance. They are quite durable for foam gliders and, while some of the pieces snapped apart upon crash landings, the planes didn't break and they could be easily reassembled.
I admit that the appeal of this toy was slightly lost on me, but I'm not an 8-year-old boy. When they say they love something, I believe them!
