Each year Toys "R" Us develops a specific catalog geared to help the parents of special needs children find toys for their children. This year Eva Longoria is featured on the cover with a 5-year-old little boy, Elijah De La Cerda, who has Down syndrome. Eva Longoria is a strong supporter of the special needs community because her sister was born with a developmental disability and learning challenges. The Toys "R" Us Toy Guide for Differently-Abled Kids features a variety of toys in the catalog, along with a toy selection guide, that provides parents with suggestions for purchasing based on categories such as auditory, language, fine motor, social skills, visual, self esteem, tactile, gross motor, creativity and thinking. If shopping online, purchasers can sort toys by category as well. Toys "R" Us has has developed this guide as a resource to parents for the last 20 years. The guide can be downloaded online at the Toys "R" Us website in both English and Spanish, or found in print in both Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us stores. Toys suggested to be utilized in the guide are picked with guidance from the National Lekotek Center.

When my son was diagnosed with autistim 3 years ago I was at a loss as to what to tell people to buy him for his birthday. When I discovered that toys r us had this section I was thrilled and it made shopping for him for our families so much easier! I wrote them a huge thank you email for acknowledging the need for it!
Thanks Brooke I’m so glad you have found this such a valuable resource, too!
