Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood iPad App

Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood iPad AppFor those of you who were big Mr. Roger's Neighborhood fans, PBS debuted today,  a new animated show for preschool aged children 2-4, called Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.

Having an almost 3-year-old little boy, I'm pretty sure this will a new fan favorite in our home. In conjunction with the show, the Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood iPad/iPhone app has been released. Though we haven't seen the show, my son and I have already been touring around Daniel Tiger's neighborhood with the iPad app.

My son loved the app. In it there are essentially 4 different activities. Kids can chose different play scenes and place different people, items  in the picture like stickers or stamps. 1 activity encourages kids to be doctor's and exam Daniel Tiger using different medical tools. The 3rd activity allows kids to explore Daniel Tiger's bedroom, making sure he has music, his blanket and teddy bear before he drifts off to sleep and begins snoring. My son's favorite activity was exploring Daniel Tiger's bathroom. We laughed outloud helping Daniel Tiger brush his teeth and since we happened to be potty training in our home, my son loved flushing the toilet over and over and over and over.

True to what I know of the content provided by PBS Kids, this is a playful app with some great underlying educational content that helps preschool aged kids continue to master their routines and experiences that are relevant to their day-to-day life. The show aims to continue to help children develop good social emotional skills, similar to the mission Fred Rogers put forth in the classic PBS show, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. It will only be a matter of time that we will probably see some cute Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood toys.

I was provided with a free code to download the app. The opinions are my own.
