The Bottom Line

Depending on your parenting style, the Mega Bloks Thomas and Friends Adventures on Misty Island playset is either a "building adventure" or an "assembly nightmare." Building it is fun, but too difficult for 3-year-old kids, the manufacturer's recommended age. When kids play with it, the tracks fall apart and require parents to repair them. Constantly.

Pros

  • Two-foot-tall mountain track layout is fun to run the trains down.
  • Many kids love Thomas the Tank Engine and Adventures on Misty Island

Cons

  • Requires parent or an older child to build the playset
  • Typical 3-year-old play causes the tracks to fall apart over and over
  • Requires building skill of children older than 3, the recommended age
  • Kids who are old enough to build the layout probably aren't interested in Thomas toys anymore.

Description

  • Colorful Mega Bloks playset has a big mountain, trees, doors and cargo for the trains.
  • It took us about half an hour to assemble the tracks, then they broke constantly.
  • Recommended for ages 3+

Guide Review - Mega Bloks Thomas and Friends Adventures on Misty Island Playset

This Mega Bloks building toy makes a two-foot-high mountain that two Thomas the Tank Engine toy engines can run down. The track is fun to run with several obstacles and interactive elements, but it requires constant parental involvement. Playing with the trains causes the tracks to separate and, eventually, the mountain to come crashing down. My 5-year-old, who considers himself "too big for Thomas the Train," couldn't repair the tracks himself. My Thomas-obsessed 2.5-year-old is considered too young to play with it, given the small pieces in the kit.

While the best Thomas the Tank Engine toys are very successful, this one requires the coordination and skill of older kids, when the little ones really want to play with it.
