A few months ago we traded in our Wii to purchase an XBox 360 with Kinect. It was one of the best decisions we ever made for our family, especially right before the cold season where our outdoor activities have been limited. The XBox 360 with Kinect Sensor (compare prices) allows the game to be controlled with your body movements, without necessarily needing to use a controller to play. I wasn’t sure what this would mean having a child who is 3, but the XBox 360 with Kinect games include something for all age groups and interests, making this console and these games the perfect gifts for tweens, teenagers and families. These are some of the best XBox games for kids, many of which include the excitement of the Kinect sensor that not only activate the mind, but the muscles as well.
Using the Kinect Sensor players can scan their face to create an individual wizard avatar. Harry Potter fans can experience the fun and excitement of attending Hogwarts while casting spells, brewing potions and playing Quidditch while flying on their broomsticks. Rated E for Everyone ages 10 and up.
This game allows up to 4 players to learn and complete dance routines featuring popular music from One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber, Rhianna, FloRida and Barry White. Though I felt that some of the moves were a bit challenging, there are easy, medium and difficult dances, and it’s a fantastic workout alternative. Recommended for ages 10 and up.
Looking for a new way to explore nature and science around the world? The Nat Geo TV game for XBox Kinect encourages kids and parents to learn about the world around them, while also partaking in movement activities based upon activities animals need to do to survive in the real world. Aside from watching fun, educational television clips, kids can use their bodies with the Kinect Sensor to pretend to be like featured animals, while also using their voices to take virtual snapshots with a camera. Recommended for kids ages 10 and up.
Originally I was concerned about playing a video game with my three year old, but these Sesame TV episodes, aside from educational games, are really interactive television episodes that are 30 minutes in length. Kids are exposed to relevant content that has them learning about numbers, letters, social skills and relevant preschool issues. My favorite part of this game includes using the Kinect Sensor to transport a video image right into an episode of Elmo's World. This experience is recommended for kids ages 3-5.
Using the Kinect sensors, players will smash and crash as a Rancor monster, or dance as a character to Star Wars music, inspired by popular hits of today. Additional games allow players to utilize a light saber, train to be a Jedi Master, and pilot Star Wars ships, bikes and vehicles. This game is a recommended toy for teens.
Have you ever wanted to experience Disneyland all on your own, on your own timeframe? Now, using the fun of the Kinect sensor players can navigate Disneyland with their bodies and voices. Players can ride and experience 20 different attractions, collect Hidden Mickeys, engage and collect autographs of 35 Disney characters, while watching parades and fireworks displays. Recommended for players ages 10 and up.
Some of the best Marvel Avengers toys from the movie release include various toys and games. In this game, recommended for Marvel fans and players ages 8 and up, encourages players to chose 1 of 20 different Marvel superheroes and villains.
