The Bottom Line

The unique "X" shape of the Yackle Ball livens up conventional ball play. It's easier to throw, you can throw it boomerang style for more fun. The Yackle Ball travels a longer distance with less arm power which makes it ideal for players who are "ball challenged". It's less intimidating to catch as compared to a regular ball. However, it is heavier than I what would have liked it to be which makes it suitable for older kids more used to ball play.

Guide Review - Yackle Ball

The Yackle Ball has been generating interest in toy circles. It is a "Made in USA" product for those folks who are particular about the toys they pick up nowadays for their kids. The unconventional ball is "X" shaped which gives it all sorts of advantages over regular balls, including longer throws, easier catches and variety in play.

I tried the Yackle Ball out with a group of kids of various ages. The older kids aged 7 and up loved it. They had a blast trying to throw the ball in all different ways. However, the younger kids aged 5 to 7 found it cumbersome as it is slightly heavy. This kind of defeated the whole purpose of making it easier to catch for this age group, unless of course, your child is comfortable with playing with heavy balls. However, I believe a Yackle Ball Jr version is available for younger players.

The Yackle Ball is covered with heavy duty vinyl which should stand up to rough play outdoors. That and the strong construction make it a durable buy. I found it for approximately $20-$25 on the web.
