Top 8 Unique Toys Spotted At Toy Fair 2006

From , former About.com Guide

More than 5000 toys debut every year at the Toy Fair. There usually is a good mix of conventional and unconventional toys at the show. Some toys really stand out because of their uniqueness, either in their concept, or in their looks, or simply by means of what they actually do. Here's what really caught the eye at the Toy Fair 2006 in terms of uniqueness.

1. Zizzlingers from Zizzle

Zizzlingers come in little packets, which kids simply drop into water. That's when the fun begins! In just a few seconds, little collectible figures based on kid's favorite characters like Disney Princess, Marvel Heroes or Pirates of the Caribbean, magically appear. I can imagine kids in a frenzy trying to collect all the figures in a series! It's a cute idea, and kids seem to love it already.

2. Moon Sand from Spin Master

Moon Sand from Spin Master is a wonderful invention - reusable sand which never dries out. Moon Sand can be formed into various models and figures and oven baked to harden the model. When it cools, simply re-bake it to get back the original crumbly texture. Kids love it, it's so versatile. Moms love it - you don't have to throw it away, it can be used over and over again.

3. ChalkTracker from Overbreak, LLC

A great outdoor toy for kids. Lines can be drawn with the included chalk on the driveway, patio or on the sidewalk. The monster ChalkTracker truck will follow the lines much to the glee of the children. The chalk washes off with water for easy cleanup.

4. Edibles from Dynatech

Here's the scene. You're engrossed in play, building articulated action figures with real moveable parts. Suddenly, a pang of hunger strikes you, and you pick up an action figure and take a big bite from it. Believable? Well, yeah, it's not made up you know! Dynatech has actually come up with the concept of edible action figures. Go figure!

5. Pocket Antz from Summit

Pocket Antz is a minaturized portable habitat which lets kids cart around their ant collection wherever they go. Air holes make sure that the little critters get their oxygen supply and there is a tube for water. Just make sure that the top is securely fastened before shoving the little ant container into your pocket or get ready for a creepy crawly surprise!

6. Flip Flop Adventures from Lyon's Tale

The name itself is a good indictator what this toy is all about. Yes, these are wearable flip flops with a difference. There is a secret compartment in each of these flip flops into which a storybook is inserted. But wait, before you dismiss the idea, each book has a common message which preaches compassion and empathy. "Put yourself in my shoes" is the company's motto. Well, they certainly get awarded points for being different!

7. Magic In A Minute from Fundex Games

Everyone definitely had a great time at the Fundex booth at Toy Fair. Fundex had a live magic show and demonstration of its new Magic in a Minute line featuring the renowned magician Mac King. Everyone oohed and aahed as various tricks were performed. The fun magic line includes various kinds of simple and quick tricks to impress and kid around with. Tricks like Mummified Monkey Finger which involves a finger suddenly coming to life is an example of what I'm talking about.

8. Toilet Buddies

Though not technically a toy, the Toilet Buddies are a great way to help your little one get over the fear of using a grown up toilet. I loved the advertising tactic - sheets of toilet paper were put into each press kit! Cute animal decals can be attached onto the foot of the toilet bowl, and a head attachement goes over the toilet tank. It's different, and definitely something which will work. It's also a great way to liven up a kid's bathroom.
