Unsafe childrens toys recall

I am also angry with the continual recall of childrens toys. The toxic chemicals theey contain are able to cause brain damage to the undeveloped brain chemistry. The neurotransmitters, synapses and dendrites are adversely affected. The toy manufacturers must be fined and reprimanded by the Consumer Product Safety Administration, The Department of Health and Human Services, Senate, House of Representatives, Congress, and the President of the United States. There must be tighter enforcement and more stringent safety and health standards. It would be benificial for the Consumer product Safety Commission to enlist the support of the American Academy of Neurology and The American Medical Association. We must not allow Corporations to put their profits ahead of product safety and health. A plan of correction must be developed that all toy manufacturers must comply with. There must be a timeframe for them to be in compliance.

Dangerous toys

When I was growing up it was to parents to supervice and to determine what their child could or should play with.Aparenly as time goes by two things are happening parents get more stupid and dumper and children more curious and stupid .Aparently this is something that run in families.when I was growing up I was told once in a very good maner a second time in not a very good manner there was not a third ,you was dead or you was grounded or worse. Now the goverment tels everyone what todo and when to do it, but the people say that this is not a comunist nation, please explain to me what is comunism,if the govermert tell me even how to do evething even how to raise my chilcren ,what they can use to play even what they can use todress to sleep thas to be controlled by the goverment even in our most intimate ways.

Response concerning toy recalls

a quick visit to the internet shows that this particular company is no stranger to recalls..in the 90's Eggscavators toy trucks were recalled due to "mixers" being able to be detached and swallowed; in 2007 Galaxy Warriors were recalled due to lead based paint and in 2008, the recall was magnetic darts, of which the magnets could be detached and swallowed....why doesn't the QA/QC division of this operation push for higher safety standards? They would if their children were on the test panels!

Not the First for Manhattan Toy

What happened? Manhattan TOy used to be known for quality. The store I buy from said they have ha several recalls recently and they may not continue to carry Manhattan's products. That being said, parents need to ensure their own kids safety as much as possible. Thanks for the article.

Thank you for the summary!

Thank you for addressing this very important topic! It's often that I forget about recalled toys unless it's headline news. This summary is fantastic and it's nice to see you address the topic in addition to introducing new toys. Thank you!

Everyone wants cheap toys!

Why do you think there are hardly any toys made in the USA or Europe. Because the American consumer wants cheap, cheap, cheap! Walmart is now the biggest toy store in the world. Walmart tells the toy manufacturers to sell it to them for cheaper or else. So the toy manufacturers cut corners to meet Walmart's demands. The lazy American consumer who gives their kids the plastic junk advertised on TV and sold in Walmart is as much to blame. The toy companies are only giving the people what they want at the price they want.

Get it right!

Parents shouldn't have to worry about recalled toys. These companies should make sure the toys they put on the market are absolutely safe. We went through the lead paint fiasco with our Thomas the Tank Engine toys. I was satisfied with how they handled the recall and replaced our toys, but lead paint...really??? Lead paint is about as basic of a safety check as it gets. Get it together toy companies!

I invest in expensive (but safe) toys

These toy recalls are absurd. I cannot fathom how it is that toy manufacturers are only discovering *after the fact* that there is lead (or whatever other weird chemical/poison shouldn't be anywhere near children) in their toys. I have become very cautious about what I give to my children. I buy expensive wood/natural toys and prefer to have far fewer of them, rather than lots of lead- and barium- and cadmium-rich junk. And I'm quick to send a recalled product back to the manufacturer (or to dispose of it as advised).

It's Ridiculous

10 years ago when I had my 1st child, I never heard about toy recalls; I don't know if companies have gotten lazier and that's why we hear about so many or if they've actually gotten more diligent. We've recently had a second child and already we've made a commitment to buying only natural toys sold from smaller companies.

A new recall every week!

It's so hard to keep track of which toys are OK and which ones are recalled. It used to be that you could use your common sense to see if a toy looked safe. Now you have to look to see if it has lead paint or not!
