Fisher-Price has agreed to pay a rather large sum to the tune of $975,000 for failing to report that a metal nail fastener could come loose from it's Little People Animal Sounds Farm playset. Back in 2002, the company received the first report of the nail coming loose from the barn door of the farm. One little 14 month old child accidently aspirated the nail fastener into his lung, mandating a surgical removal of the offending piece. Allegedly, Fisher-Price did report the matter to the CPSC in March 2003 after numerous such reports had surfaced. According to FP, it denied knowingly violating the law.

Fisher Price should pay the $975,000 for letting the problem (metal nail fastener)go on for months without offering to fix the problem. All manufacturers that produce children’s toys especially for very young children should extensively test the product before putting it on the market and make sure there are NO potentially hazardous parts. Also, the government should regulate toy safety for very young children more closely and make the fines fit the crime (problem).
