I just gave birth to a baby in May. And since there are six years separating my baby boy and my 6-year-old daughter, I spent a lot of time actively polling other parents on must-have baby products.
I heard a lot of rants and raves about car seats, swings and other baby gear, but it was the Ocean Wonders Soothe & Glow Seahorse (compare prices) from Fisher-Price that got the best reviews.
This is, quite possibly, the sweetest baby toy ever created. The seahorse has a belly that glows a soft light while it plays gentle music and ocean sounds. It's touted on the packaging as "a perfect nighttime friend for baby," and they aren't kidding. Here's the thing: it works. I had moms swear to me up and down that this toy put their little ones to sleep. And I didn't believe them. Until I placed it next to my wide-awake 2-month-old and he corked off.
Aside from the obvious magical properties, I like that the music isn't blaring and annoying like some baby toys. It does have a volume control (it can even be turned off altogether), but the sound itself only lasts for about five minutes. It's available in pink or blue.
