Toy Recall News: Henry Gordy International No Stranger To Toy Recalls

From Kristen Ryan, About.com GuideMay 17, 2010

Follow me on:

Henry Gordy International of Plainfield, NJ, the importer of the 1.8 million toy dart gun playsets recalled today, is no stranger to toy recalls. According to the CPSC website, Henry Gordy International has been responsible for several toy recalls involving more than 3,000,000 toys!

In today's recall of Henry Gordy International's toy dart gun playsets it's important to note that the company refused to recall the toys. Sadly two children died when they choked on the playset's darts. Fortunately the toy's exclusive retailer, Family Dollar is offering a refund to customers who bought the toys.

Henry Gordy should be ashamed of themselves for peddling unsafe toys to our children. I’m sure none of their children play with them.

Their phone number 908-755-9660 is now disconnected! Maybe Obama should shut this place down for good? USA SHOULD BAN ALL TOYS MADE IN CHINA!!!

If we boycott all toys made in China, that would include Fisher Price and Mattel. I think it’s a great idea though. Maybe if everyone stopped buying anything made in China, our factories would come back home and start employing Americans again.

Ban all toys made in China, even those by Mattel or Fisher Price? Bring the factories back home? Sure.

Are you willing to pay 300-500% more for those toys?

Safer toys are already available, but they cost a lot more, usually because they are made in Western countries without a tradition of using lead, melamine, etc in toys for children. But Americans refuse to buy them — because of the cost.

Chinese toy factory workers may make 1/100th what an American factory worker would demand — are we ready to pay that price differential?

Why should a company recall something that an adult can look at and tell that it may or may not harm their child? When do parents take responsibility for their own children? By the time, a company has to explain for every item that goes out “do not put plastic bag over face, it is not a toy and it may cause death”, the cost continue to rise and common sense goes to the back of the class. I understand the lead…that is something we may not be able to check, but your child chewing on a dart…it is not food! Give them a cloth that is wet or a cup of water to wet the end of the dart. If your child has a tendency to chew then take the toy away, it is our responsibility to watch them! Hot coffee is hot and small parts are small. When does common sense come into play? Is it so hard to see the obvious? No wonder our children grow up blaming others and acting like it is always someone else’s fault
