Trio is a building tool similar to LEGO and K'nex building playsets. Kids snap the blocks together and they click right into place. Though I hesitated to add another block system to the playroom chaos, I'm really impressed with the way they work. We started with a Trio construction set, (Compare Prices) which is rated for kids ages 4 to 7.
My son just turned 5 and the inch-square Trio blocks are easy for him to manage. He knows they're in place when they click together. The instructions are easy to follow and the playsets come with a few extra blocks and additional project ideas.
I only had to help a few times when we built the truck and the construction site, then he was able to change it around and play with it on his own. They are fun sets for young kids who like building toys.
just the right toys for the future architects…
Building sets are great, the more open-ended the better. The only ones we don’t care for so much are the ones where the project is already designed for the child, so that the finished project is on the box & the box only contains pieces specifically designed to do that project. Where’s the creativity there? The best toys allow the child to be active & in control of their creative project, not passive spectators.
