516 American parents with children ages one to five years, were surveyed online between May 17, 2011 to June 1, 2011 about incorporating music into their play experiences. General impressions indicated that playing music during playtime has a postive impact on children. The survey, completed by Harris Interactive on behalf of LEGO Systems, Inc., also concluded:
- Parents reported that music makes their children feel playful (67%), happier (63%), fun-loving (53%), energized (51%), and sillier (47%)
- 60% of parents surveyed listen to music when playing with their children
- 76% of parents reported that they feel more connected to their children after participating in play experiences
- 1/3 of parents surveyed identified that developing creative play strategies that facilitate learning at the child's developmental level can be "stressful"
LEGO, Inc. recently created the podcast LEGO DUPLO Jams, where parents can download free songs that promote the letters of the alphabet, color awareness and problem solving skills for sorting while their preschool aged children build and click their LEGO's together. A new song is released each month to download.
