Be-Bratz.com - MGA's answer to BarbieGirls.com???

Oh, look what we have here - it's Be-Bratz.com, MGA's answer to Barbie Girls. Hot on the heels of Mattel's BarbieGirls.com and virtual Barbie Girls comes MGA Entertainment's Be-Bratz.com, a very similar concept. I really don't want to get into the "who's copying whom" debate right now. What's definitely more pertinent is who beats whom in terms of releasing their product faster!

Be-Bratz.com is touted as a "dynamic new Bratz fashion doll and web-based community" by MGA Entertainment. It's still in beta though as I write. I guess someone was in a hurry to get it released!

Very much like BarbieGirls.com, you can create your own little virtual Bratz character online at Be-Bratz.com, make friends with other online Bratz fans, decorate your personalized 3D space, play games and do other assorted activities.

But of course, nothing comes free. So, what do you have to buy this time around? Well, it's a "special glam necklace that comes packaged with one of three new Bratz fashion dolls", according to MGA. The Be-Bratz.com doll retails for an MSRP $29.99. In accordance with the latest toy trend of USB plug-in devices, this necklace fits into the USB port of your computer and transports you into the Be-Bratz.com virtual world. From then on, you can create your own Bratz character, customize the look and feel of "MyPage", the space alloted to you, find out your Bratz' personality via a personality quiz, makeover your virtual avatar, play games and do all sorts of other things.

Now, onto the other pressing question - security. MGA says the site is "monitored for safety". The safety measures are better explained on the Be-Bratz.com website at the Note To Parents link. All the same, parents, please keep an eye out for any lurking virtual dangers. The site has text messaging capabilities, with live chat scheduled for release later this year.

Aiming to provide a complete virtual experience, the Be-Bratz.com dolls comes with their very own pet, a mouse and a mouse pad and of course the necklace I mentioned earlier. On a parting note, apart from spending the $29.99 for the Be-Bratz.com doll, you'll probably have to get your little one her very own computer as a bonus. Welcome to the virtual world!
