Guide Review - Cranium's Board Game Cariboo

Cranium's Cariboo is a great game for preschoolers and slightly older kids.

The aim of the Cranium board game Cariboo is very simple - to find the 6 different colored balls by unlocking the doors. The balls are initially dropped into holes on the game board, which is hollow from inside. There are numerous "doors" which can be unlocked and opened using the special key. The balls settle into slots underneath the closed doors. Each door displays a card, which has a clue on it. Clues can be numbers, colors, words, objects etc depending on the age group which is playing. Each player receives a stack of cards which they use to match up to the clues on the doors, and open them one at a time. Each time someone discovers a ball, he or she places it in a tunnel leading to the treasure. Once all the balls are in place, the little treasure chest opens up, and the person who finds the last ball is the winner.

Cariboo is easy to comprehend for even the younger kids. My only gripe is that I wish Cranium had provided alternate sets of cards which could be used to teach the young ones more things, while providing variety to the game. Currently there are 2 sets of cards, one for beginners and one for advanced players. Another minor issue is that it is possible to peek into a locked compartment adjacent to the open one, and check if there is a ball inside, which I actually noticed a couple of kids doing!

All things considered, Cranium's Cariboo is a great buy for your kids!
